I’m Adrian Garside and I’m a Pink Floyd Fan.
I first saw Pink Floyd in the late 1980′s, twice on the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour, then again in 1990 at Knebworth, there are video’s of this concert on Youtube, in fact, in you look up ‘Knebworth 1990′ on youtube, you will see that there were a great many artists that day, the unexpected highlight was Cliff Richard who came out in a bright pink suit so that the people further back could see him. Maybe it was the contrast with the artist before him – Phil Collins, who just sat on the stage and took his pretty boring music to new depths.
Anyway, I saw Pink Floyd twice more in the 1990′s and I’ve seen Roger Waters play, the Australian Pink Floyd Show (a pretty good tribute band) and I was at Live8 for the Pink Floyd reunion.
Last night the Arts Channel showed Pink Floyd in concert in HD – it wasn’t as HD as I’d hoped – in 1994 HD didn’t exist, nevertheless, while I wasn’t at this show, I have seen this set twice and it made the hairs on my arms stand up.
Pink Floyd are known for their stage shows – the band members themselves are pretty shy and don’t want to be the centre of attention. This is the last song of the set, Run Like Hell. it’s from The Wall album. If you are like me, from the video you won’t get the scale of the set, but according to wikipedia the stage is 55 meters wide and 40 meters high. That is, as wide as an Olympic sized swimming pool is long, and as high as a 16 story house. I’m a little bit unsure that it’s that big – maybe they have two sets, for indoors and outdoors…anyway, it is big!
